JOHANNESBURG =============================== lezing IBAI 09.04.14 [Architectuur & stedenbouw](https://recyclart.be/nl/agenda?category=architectuur-stedenbouw) deuren 20:00 - €3 lezing 20:30 (in english) “Johannesburg is een mash-up van een stad: blitse shoppingcentra en strengbewaakte buurten in lommerrijke voorsteden als contrapunt voor eindeloze bidonvilles en een broeierige binnenstad met migranten uit verafgelegen stammen of andere Afrikaanse contreien. De stad is tegelijk ontwikkeld en in ontwikkeling, derde wereld en eerste wereld, high-tech en gestoeld op traditioneel geloof in voorvaderen, ritueel en muti. De stad van goud, van dromen – die ook nachtmerries kunnen worden – van botsende klassen en culturen. Zij is de oververhitte zenuwen, de ingewanden en het kloppend hart van Zuidafrika. Ze leent zichzelf voor verhalen, heruitvinding en hertaling”. (Lauren Beukes in ‘Johannesburg is science fiction’) **Lauren Beukes** schrijft romans, stripverhalen, scenarios, televisieprogrammas voor kinderen en waagt zich occasioneel nog journalistiek en het maken van documentaires. In haar romans hanteert ze fantastische concepten als reizen in de tijd over een Johannesburg van zwarte magie of een apartheidsstaat waarin we allemaal door onze draagbare telefoons gecontrolleerd worden om existentiële vragen te stellen. Haar ‘Zoo City’ won de Arthur C. Clarke Award en ‘Shining Girls’ is een bestseller. Ondertussen is ook "Moxyland" van haar hand gepubliceerd. Deze drie boeken werden uitgegeven door Presses de la Cité. Ze leeft met haar familie in Kaapstad. In 2014 zet onze nieuwe cyclus lezingen over architectuur en stedenbouw haar reis verder naar verschillende steden uit de vier hoeken van de wereld, ‘minder’ gekende steden die in een recent verleden (en nog heden) door ernstige conflicten verstoord zijn (sociaal, etnisch, religieus, economisch): Mexico City, Beiroet, Johannesburg en Belgrado. Dit jaar voegen we een dimensie toe door naast de architect of stedenbouwkundige ook een ‘verteller’ uit een andere discipline te zetten(film, literatuur, sociologie…). Om dit nieuwe format te begeleiden, werkt Recyclart in 2014 samen met **‘hortence’** (Laboratoire d’Histoire, Théorie & Critique de le Faculté d’Architecture de l’ULB). Zij verzorgen ook de visuele inleiding van de lezing en het gesprek erna.
